Impressions about the Comenius project beginnings in our school in Poland

26 September, 2011

On 26th September 2011 in Junior Secondary School no 2 people celebrated European Day of Languages. In connection to this celebration commemorated in Europe for a few years, foreign language teachers prepared a lot of attractions for teenagers.
Among these attractions there were songs in English, German and Russian played on every break. Pupils led by their teachers prepared the posters which were put onto the door of English and German classrooms. In the hall on the ground floor you could see the decoration done by Mrs Beata Granacka and her pupils.
The climax of this year’s celebration were quizzes prepared by foreign language teachers group: English – Mrs Magdalena Zielińska and Mr Andrzej Kulbacki, German – Mrs Agnieszka Hajkowska-Miklaszewska, Russian – Mrs Beata Granacka.  The quizzes were led on the gym and every year took part in them on a different lesson. First classes chose from their classes 5 representatives each and they answered 15 questions. Every team got a question set which was connected with three chosen language areas: English, German and Russian. Second and third class chose 4 or 5 representatives each and they answered 10 questions from every language area so at all they answered to 30 questions. The participants wrote their answers on the pieces of paper, which they gave at the end of the quiz. The hostess and the host checked the correctness of the answers and wrote points of all groups on the blackboard. At the end of the quizzes leading teachers read aloud all the correct answers to the questions. Then the third, the second and the first place were announced. Those participants who gained third and second place got bookmarks with irregular verbs as booby prizes and winning classes got lollipops.
The teenagers were having a lot of fun and what is the most important they intensified their knowledge about the countries which languages are taught at school.
The gym was decorated too as the quizzes were led there. It was prepared by pupils under the supervision of their teachers: Mrs Agnieszka Hajlkowska-Miklaszewska and Mrs Magdalena Zielińska. Mr Andrzej Kulbacki was responsible for taking the pictures.
The celebration of The European Day of Languages are the element of the realization of the international multilateral school project in European program Comenius named “Tea Garden”. The project starts in the autumn this year and lasts for two years. The members of the project are schools and educational institutions from Portugal, Italy, Germany and Turkey. The piece of information about the celebration of the mentioned holiday will be passed in English to all the members of the project and we will get a returnable piece of information about that day in their schools instead.

  1. We would like each school participating in the Comenius project to send some information about activities you are currently doing. It would be good to know what is happening in each school.
